The convergence of promising minds in the realm of development, orchestrated in collaboration between the Young Professionals and the CISSA-Center for Innovation in Science and Social Action, unfolded at Sri Lakshmi Towers, Pulimoodu, Attingal on 14^th November 2023 at 3.00 pm. The ambiance resonated with an air of anticipation as Sri. Sudheesh Kumar from CISSA graciously welcomed the professionals, setting the stage for the inaugural icebreaking session, elegantly facilitated by the erudite sociologist and proficient trainer, Dr. Sujith Edwin Perera and Sri. Pallippuram Jaya Kumar.

Focus Group Discussion

The gathering was honoured by the esteemed presence of Sri. V Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs. In his introductory address, Sri. V Muraleedharan delved deep into the multifaceted challenges faced by both the youth and farming communities. His discourse artfully underscored the pivotal role that a conscientious youth could play in not just enriching the state but also fortifying their own prospects. Central to his address was the clarion call to transition from a mindset of job seeking to one of job creation, thereby empowering not only oneself but also the societal ecosystem they inhabit.

Drawing inspiration from the visionary stance of the Honourable Prime Minister, Sri. Narendra Modi, Sri. V Muraleedharan advocated for every young individual to embark on the entrepreneurial journey, leveraging the robust support provided by governmental and institutional frameworks. He emphasized the need for an intellectual shift towards prioritizing the identification and solution-centric approach to the challenges faced within one’s community, fostering a culture of innovative problem-solving and upskilling.

Citing illustrative examples, Sri. V Muraleedharan eloquently elucidated how a fervent aspiration towards entrepreneurship manifested in diverse domains, such as efficient waste management, showcasing the immense potential harboured within the realms of creativity and forward-thinking.

Dr. A Radhakrishnan Nair, in a thought-provoking address, prompted the assembled young minds to contemplate their role in the development tapestry of Attingal. With a keen focus on the ambitious ‘Skill India’ initiative, he underscored its significance in a nation that proudly harbours 35% of its populace as the youth. His impassioned narrative resonated with the imperative to empower this burgeoning demographic.

Highlighting the strategic and geographical significance of Attingal, Dr. Nair painted a vivid picture of the forthcoming surge in job opportunities. He meticulously outlined the impending arrival of monumental projects, notably the Vizhinjam seaport, auguring a wave of transformative changes in the region. This visionary foresight emphasized the imminent socioeconomic landscape awaiting Attingal, presenting an unparalleled canvas for the proactive involvement of its youth.

Dr. Nair’s discourse skilfully juxtaposed the impending infrastructural advancements with the pivotal role that upskilling initiatives could play in harnessing the potential of the region’s youth. His words wove a narrative of opportunity, urging the audience to envision their role as architects of change, poised at the threshold of a landscape ripe with possibilities.

The Audience Session

During the engaging focus group discussion, a diverse array of inquiries unfurled, each resonating with the aspirations and concerns of the vibrant gathering. Mr. Arun, a graduate in engineering ignited the discussion by querying the spectrum of job prospects within logistics and supply chain management, particularly delving into the burgeoning contractual job opportunities in this domain.

Following suit, Ms. Sruthi, a proficient postgraduate in biotechnology, earnestly voiced the prevalent issue of widespread youth migration to foreign shores. Her impassioned plea centred on the pivotal role the government could play in curbing this exodus by enhancing domestic job prospects, compelling the youth to envision a future within the bounds of their homeland.

Mr. Vishnu, a resilient BTech graduate-turned-entrepreneur, candidly shared his post-pandemic job pursuit challenges, which catalyzed his entrepreneurial journey. Emphasizing the necessity for improved employment avenues, he notably highlighted the dearth of public sanitation facilities in the region, underlining an area that warrants immediate attention.

The forum further echoed the plight of Mr. Arun, a BSc Computer Science alumnus grappling with the perpetual evolution of technology. His inquiry resonated deeply as he sought guidance on navigating the maze of continuous upskilling, considering the swiftly changing landscape rendering certain aspects of his degree less applicable in today’s tech-driven world.

Mr. Vishnu, a Marine Engineer working in the Merchant Navy has highlighted the need to start a training program for the youths in Fire and Safety which is a very important trade required for Sea Ports like Vizhinjam.

Adv. Sujith, a young practicing advocate from Attingal has highlighted the need for technical and professional courses on the basis of the burgeoning opportunities coming up in the district and called for the opening up of the campus of the Central University of Kerala at Attingal to start the courses.

Adding a community perspective, the Attingal Municipality Councillor steered the dialogue towards the latent tourism potential within and around the Attingal region. He articulated a vision that encompassed harnessing the allure of the Vamanapuram River, igniting discussions on strategic plans to leverage this natural asset for tourism development.

The session burgeoned into a melting pot of ideas, aspirations, and concerns, weaving a tapestry reflective of the dynamic aspirations and challenges faced by the youth of Attingal. Each query painted a canvas of opportunity, beckoning for innovative solutions and collaborative efforts towards a more empowered, enriched community fabric.

The venerable Minister, Sri. V Muraleedharan eloquently addressed the myriad queries, emphasizing the abundance of upskilling courses and opportunities offered by the Government of India. The profound insights resonated deeply, illuminating pathways for the eager audience to navigate the evolving landscape of skill development. Sri. V Muraleedharan has suggested that project proposals on the suggestions made may be prepared so that they may be taken to appropriate authorities for further action. The young professionals can individually or collectively work to realize these ideas.

His impassioned discourse elucidated the pressing need for these organizations and outlined their role in bolstering crop yields among existing farmers. Sri. He meticulously outlined the manifold aids and subsidies provided by the central government, paving the way for each attendee to become a stakeholder in the agricultural sphere.

The ambiance was charged with an infectious vibrancy, brimming with the collective energy of approximately 60 individuals. Their eagerness to absorb, contribute, and chart new horizons encapsulated the spirit of collaboration and progress that permeated throughout the gathering.

In India, the youth represent not just a demographic, but a reservoir of immense potential, innovation, and vitality crucial for the nation’s progress. Kerala, known for its vibrant youth population, exudes promise and capability. However, the chasm between their skills and the availability of suitable employment opportunities presents a pressing challenge. Recognizing this imperative need to bridge this gap and harness the latent talent pool, the Global Givers Foundation, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, orchestrated a series of Job Expos. These expos aimed not only to spotlight the proficiency of Kerala’s youth but also to serve as pivotal avenues to connect them with promising career prospects, thereby fostering sustainable growth within the state.

As a part of the inaugural phase, the Job Expos arranged by the Global Givers Foundation, in Varkala, Nedumangad, and Kattakkada within Trivandrum district, Kerala, marked the inception of a concerted effort to address the employment challenges faced by the youth. These events were not mere gatherings but served as dynamic platforms, far away from the city to engage with the diverse talents residing in these regions. The choice of these specific locales underscores the commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that the opportunities extend beyond urban centres to encompass the aspirations and skills of youth from varying backgrounds and geographies within the district.

A collaborative effort between Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Global Givers Foundation culminated in a successful job expo held at Sivagiri Higher Secondary School in Varkala on October 1, 2023. The ceremony was inaugurated by Sri V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt of India marking the beginning of a day filled with opportunities for the youth. 64 companies from the private sector participated in this expansive event aimed at empowering the young workforce.

Dignitaries of significant stature graced the inauguration ceremony, including Sri. Visalananda, Corporate Manager, Sivagiri Higher Secondary School; Smt. R V Viji, Development Standing Committee Chairperson, Varkala Municipality; Sri. C G Andavar, State Director, KVIC, Kerala; Sri. Jaya Mohan S, Lead District Manager, IOB, etc. Their presence underscored the importance of this initiative in bolstering employment prospects for the country’s youth. Sri. V. Muraleedharan’s inaugural address set the tone for the day, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting and nurturing the potential of the younger generation.

The expo commenced promptly at 9 am, bustling with eager candidates and representatives from various companies. Post-inauguration, classes were conducted, focusing on elucidating the multitude of central government schemes tailored to benefit the youth. Discussions revolved around pivotal schemes like Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Program, and Pradan Mantri Mudra Yojana, among others, enlightening attendees about available avenues for personal and professional growth.

With an emphasis on accessibility, the event allowed candidates to register in person, without registration fees. Over 6200 candidates availed themselves of this opportunity with their biodata. The event facilitated over 4000 job opportunities, and through a rigorous screening process, approximately 3000 candidates were shortlisted for a detailed interview. Few candidates were offered jobs on the spot.

The success of the expo was attributed not just to the wealth of opportunities but also to the seamless coordination among various groups of volunteers. Their dedication and efficiency ensured the smooth execution of the day’s events, fostering an environment conducive to meaningful interactions between aspiring candidates and prospective employers. Overall, the joint effort of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and the Global Givers Foundation culminated in a highly impactful and promising job expo for the youth of the region.

The resounding success witnessed in Varkala found its mirror image in the Job Expo held at Amrita Kairali Vidyabhavan in Nedumangad on November 5^th, 2023. The program was inaugurated by Sri. V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Govt of India in a function presided over by Mrs. Rani Mohandas, Mohandas Engineering College Chairperson. The event transcended expectations as it welcomed the active participation of 60 esteemed companies, extending a staggering array of 3000 job opportunities across diverse sectors. Moreover, the collaboration with entities such as the Khadi Village Industries Commission, State Bank of India, Lead Bank, and the Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO) added depth and value through engaging seminars on flagship programs, enriching the event’s educational aspect. This dynamic gathering drew a remarkable attendance of over 3000 individuals, showcasing the unwavering enthusiasm and aspirations of Kerala’s youth. 54 companies from the private sector participated. Among these, an inspiring 2200 individuals were shortlisted, marking a significant stride towards connecting talent with tangible employment prospects.

The echoes of triumph from prior events reverberated once more at the Kattakkada Christian College, where the Job Expo unfolded as a beacon of opportunities on 19^th November 2023. The expo was inaugurated by Sri. V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State, Govt of India in a function presided over by Dr. Aby, Principal Kattakkada Christian College. Dr. J. Hareendran Nair delivered the keynote address. A staggering 3800 job opportunities, spanning a spectrum of industries and professions, were extended by 60 companies present at this event. The enthusiasm was palpable as 4200 eager candidates thronged the venue, each embodying the aspiration and zeal to secure meaningful employment. Among this remarkable gathering, 2100 individuals emerged as shortlisted candidates, a testament to the event’s efficacy in facilitating connections between talent and prospective employers.

The collaborative efforts of the Global Givers Foundation and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan were magnified in these triumphant expos. The Expo not only showcased the sheer scale of opportunities but also included informative sessions and interactive discussions. These engagements empowered attendees with insights and knowledge, nurturing a holistic approach toward skill development and career progression.

Mann Ki Baat broadcast by All India Radio is considered one of the most widely broadcast radio programs with the world’s highest listener audience. It is a trendsetter program that reached the masses and helped to reinvent the importance of radio as a medium of communication. 100 episodes of the program have been broadcast without any break by a head of the State is history unparalleled. The broadcast became viral not only among adults, its highly popular among school children, college students, farmers, laymen, and all categories of people.

Each episode of Mann Ki Baat is a repository of knowledge covering Indian tradition, culture, heritage, history, freedom struggle, great leaders, development initiatives of government, positive and innovative initiatives of citizens in the nook and corner of the country, science, innovations, and whatnot. The children of the country should invariably listen to them and learn from the narratives.

In order to encourage and motivate the youngsters to listen and learn from the MKB programs, the Global Givers Foundation in collaboration with NYKS and NSS under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India conducted a MANN KI BAAT@100 quiz competition among the school and college students.

The school-level competitions were inaugurated at Saraswathi Vidyalaya, Vattiyurkkavu, Thiruvananthapuram by Sri. V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State for External and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt of India in a function chaired by Sri. Rajamohan, Chairman, Saraswathi Vidyalaya. After the institutional competitions, the competitions were conducted at the Taluk level to select the students to visit Delhi during the Independence Day programmes enabling them to join the festival. Students from 21 colleges, 37 higher secondary schools, and 53 high schools participated in the taluk-level competitions.

The winners of the competitions visited Delhi and got an opportunity to observe the Independence Day celebrations in Delhi and to interact with the Hon’ble Rashtrapathi, the Hon’ble Vice President of India, and various Union Ministers, historical places, and cultural heritages.

Certificates and mementos were distributed to all the winners at the institutional level and those who visited Delhi at a function held at AJ College of Science and Technology, Thonnakkal by Sri. V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State for External and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt of India.
